No. 44 USF Set for Senior Day Against Memphis Friday, War on I-4 Sunday

TAMPA, April 11, 2019 –  The Bulls remain undefeated in conference play as they prepare to challenge Memphis on Senior Day on Friday, and War on I-4 opponent, No. 32 UCF on Sunday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts to close out the regular season.
 
No. 44 USF (13-6, 3-0), returns from a two-week hiatus after a 7-0 loss to No. 20 Oklahoma in March. In the meantime, doubles pair Alberto Barroso-Campos (Montijo, Spain) and Pierre Luquet (Draguignan, France) checked in at No. 66 in the ITA doubles rankings. Barroso-Campos has remained ranked in the Top 30 all season and reached a career-high ranking at No. 17 in singles this week.
 
Friday's match against Memphis will feature a Senior Ceremony for Barroso-Campos at 1:15 p.m. Barroso-Campos has been a part of the USF men's tennis program for three seasons and has played at the top spot for the Bulls for two. He boasted a 16-5 singles record in 2017, 11-7 in 2018 and is 15-2 so far this season. In doubles, Barroso-Campos went 14-7 in doubles in 2017, 12-6 in 2018 and is 11-5 this season.
 
Barroso-Campos has been named The American player of the week three times in his career, has been named to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Doubles Team twice, the singles team once and has recorded 10 ranked wins in his career. The senior also won an ITF Futures Tour Tampa Professional Event in 2017.
 
USF's War on I-4 rivalry will be the regular season finale for the Bulls who will head to Orlando for the American Athletic Conference tournament April 18-21.
 
Scouting the Opponents
Memphis
Memphis (11-10, 2-2), looks for their first road win of the season, as Paul Goebel leads the team in his 15th season as head coach. 
 
Chris Patzanovsky maintains the No. 1 singles court for the Tigers holding a 10-5 record for the year. Freshman Oscar Cutting leads the team in singles, 13-3, and when paired with David Stevenson, holds the premiere doubles court for Memphis, 7-9.
 
The teams last met in 2018 with Memphis sweeping the Bulls, 4-0.
 
UCF
The Knights travel to Tampa for the War on 1-4 battle, with Director of Tennis John Riddick in his third season at the helm.
 
No. 32 UCF's (11-9, 1-0) season has consisted of wins against four ranked opponents: #26 Oklahoma State, #29 Miami, #36 Penn State and #42 Tulane.
 
Former Player of the Week and No. 32 singles contender Gabriel Decamps swings 6-6 on the top court for the Knights. Mikhail Sokolovskiy leads the team in singles wins with a 10-6 clip primarily on the sixth court. 
 
No. 24 tandem of Trey Hilderbrand and former Player of the Week Bogdan Pavel top UCF in doubles wins going 11-3 on the premiere court this season.
 
Last season, USF took on the Knights and left victorious, 4-1.
 
WAR ON I-4 RIVALRY
The War on I-4 represents a long-standing and passionate rivalry between the fan bases of two of the nation's largest and fastest growing universities. The Orlando and Tampa Bay metropolitan areas, which form the fourth-largest media market in the nation, are connected by 100 miles of Interstate 4 (I-4).

The official recognition of the rivalry and the traditional name, first established by the fans, creates an annual series of scored competitions across multiple sports programs. The War On I-4 rivalry series officially began Sept. 21, 2016 with a competition between the two schools' volleyball programs.
