No. 2 Seeded Bulls Head to Orlando for the American Athletic Conference Tournament

TAMPA, April 17, 2019 – No. 2 seed USF women's tennis team will face either No. 7 seed ECU or No. 10 seed Cincinnati at the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday at 3 p.m., after a first round bye.

USF (11-10, 4-2 AAC) has won the AAC Women's Tennis Championship twice, once in 2014 as the No. 3 seed over No. 1 Houston, 4-2. Most recently in 2-17, USF won the championship as the lowest seed in tournament history to take home the crown. The No. 7 seeded Bulls took down No. 1 Tulsa, 4-2. All-time in the conference tournament, USF is 9-3 which is the second best record in the conference.

USF closed out the regular season with a 4-2 loss to rival No. 25 UCF in the War on I-4. Sophomore Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas), won her match in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3, on court six, while freshman Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, on court three.

No. 58, senior Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), had a 13-5 record in the regular season, with five of these wins coming against ranked opponents, most notably then-No. 1 player in the country, Katarina Jokic from Georgia.

Pellicer Perello finished the regular season with a 12-8 record, including a team-best eight-game winning streak from Feb. 22-March 23. She is also 6-0 when she plays at the No. 4 spot.

Freshman Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), had a regular season record of 10-9, making her the third Bull with double digit wins. Boy has a 6-1 record at the No. 5 spot, including a win over then-No.107 Elena Christofi from Georgia.

Doubles duo seniors Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), and Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), own an 8-7 record at the No. 1 spot, the best record for a doubles pairing for the Bulls.

Cincinnati
No. 10 seed Cincinnati (11-10, 1-3 AAC), faces off against ECU in the first round. The Bearcats are led by Emma Miceli with a regular season record of 12-5, and a 9-3 record at the No. 6 spot. For doubles, Alexia Coutino and Antonella Bramato had a regular season record of 12-6 at the No. 1 spot.

The Bearcats have advanced to the quarterfinals almost every year, except in 2015, and reached the semifinals once in 2017. Cincinnati's overall record in the tournament is 4-5.
