League Champion Bulls Announce 2019 Women’s Soccer Schedule
TAMPA, June 17, 2019 — Head coach
Denise Schilte-Brown and her squad will look to continue their success as they take on 19 opponents in 2019 including two exhibition matchups. The Bulls will face seven teams that finished 2018 in the Top 25 or received votes.
USF will compete in two exhibition matches prior to the start of the season including a game at Stetson on Aug. 13 and one at Corbett Stadium against C-USA champion North Texas on Aug. 16.
USF's regular season schedule kicks off at Corbett Stadium, where the Bulls will host eight home matches. The road slate begins at Saint Leo on Aug. 29 for one of nine away matches. The Bulls will take on three opponents ranked inside the Top 25, four receiving votes, and five teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament.
"We have a strong group returning and a talented new class coming up in the fall," said head coach Schilte-Brown. "We're really excited for the girls to get back so we can see their talent, skill and hard work in action. We have tremendous leadership and cohesiveness amongst all our classes. We have five teams on the schedule that advanced to postseason last year, and three that finished along with us in the Top 25. We will be challenged early and often. This team continues to improve each year, and I'm looking forward to seeing it rise even higher in 2019."
The American Athletic Conference champion Bulls finished 2018 with the highest ranking in program history at No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings and ended the year as the NCAA statistical champions in goals per game. USF also produced its second-ever All-American last season when
Evelyne Viens (Canada) was named to the United Soccer Coaches third team for the second time in her career.
In 2018, USF went 8-1 in The American to clinch its first regular season championship. USF was 15-4 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the third time in program history, all under head coach Schilte-Brown.
Home Sweet Corbett
The Bulls are an incredible 30-4-3 at Corbett Stadium over the last four seasons with just one loss per season including two in postseason contests. USF went undefeated in the regular season at home last year. Of its four home field-losses in the last four seasons, USF's only dropped match in 2018 was in The American Tournament Championship game which is technically marked neutral. USF has hosted the first round of the NCAA Tournament in four of the last five seasons.
The Bulls will look to continue their home success as they welcome eight teams to Tampa during the regular season, opening its schedule at home for the third straight year. South Florida's opener is set for Aug. 22 against Auburn (RV) which finished in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2018.
USF's non-conference lineup at Corbett Stadium also includes Florida (Aug. 25), RV Ohio State (Sept. 1) and No. 24 Texas Tech (Sept. 21). Texas Tech is one of two teams on the Bulls schedule that advanced to the second round or farther in the NCAA tournament last season along with Wake Forest which USF will see on the road.
The Bulls conference slate opens at home on Sept. 21 with Tulsa, and No. 23 Memphis on Sept. 29. Also at home, USF will face UConn (Oct. 17) and Temple (Oct. 20).
On the Road Again
USF will begin road action at Saint Leo University on Aug. 29, and will play a pair of games in San Antonio, against Rice (Sept. 6) and UTSA (Sept. 8), both at UTSA. The Bulls will close non-conference road play at Wake Forest (Sept. 15) which advanced to the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA tournament.
USF will see the majority of its conference opponents away and will visit Houston (Oct. 3) and SMU (Oct. 6) for the first road swing of American Athletic Conference play.
USF will close its regular season campaign on the road with matches at Cincinnati (Oct. 24), ECU (Oct. 27) and UCF (Oct. 31).
War on I-4
Once again, USF and UCF will battle it out to close out the regular season. USF will visit the Knights on Oct. 31 for a Halloween War on I-4 finale.
The UCF and USF athletic departments announced the establishment of the War On I-4 rivalry series, which officially began Sept. 21, 2016 with a competition between the two schools' volleyball programs. The War on I-4 represents a long-standing and passionate rivalry between the fan bases of two of the nation's largest and fastest growing universities. The Orlando and Tampa Bay metropolitan areas are connected by 100 short miles of Interstate 4 (I-4).
