210 Bulls Named to American All-Academic Team
PROVIDENCE, R.I., July 11, 2019 – Pursuing its mission of excellence in the classroom and in competition, USF Athletics saw a total of 210 student-athletes named to the 2018-19 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, announced Thursday by the conference.
The 210 academic and athletic achieving Bulls honored across AAC-sponsored sports are the third most in program history, just a handful shy of the program record 214 honored in 2015-16. In 2017-18, 212 student-athletes earned the honor, starting a streak of over 200 student-athletes honored each year. The string of 212 and 210 honorees, respectfully, is an improvement over the 198 USF Bulls named to the All-Academic team in 2016-17.
Women's track and field led the way for the Bulls, qualifying 43 student-athletes to the All-Academic team. Men's golf set a program record for honorees with all nine team members qualifying for the All-Academic honor. Softball also had the highest number of honorees in its history with 25, contributing to its earning the Team Academic Excellence Award from the conference. Men's soccer also had the highest total of honorees in its history with 17 honorees, and women's soccer added 18.

Brian Gregory's first year at the helm. Women's basketball added seven from the second-round WNIT team. Football added an impressive 27 to the total, while baseball added 11 names to the team. Men's track and field and cross country contributed another dozen student-athletes, while 88 percent of the women's golf team and 88 percent of the men's tennis team qualified. All 10 women's tennis players earned all-academic team honors, and volleyball added another 10 student-athletes to the grand total.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have competed in an AAC sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credit hours.
About USF Athletics
USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men's and women's teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls' athletic program began in 1965 and is in its 53rd season in 2018-19. Nearly 500 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 18 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, and own 119 conference titles overall. Nine USF programs reached national post-season competition in the 2017-18 season and six were ranked in the Top 25 nationally. The Bulls posted a combined annual grade-point average over 3.0 for the third straight year in 2017-18 and have posted a program record eight straight semesters with a combined GPA over 3.0. USF has had more than 250 student-athletes earn their degree in the last three years.
