TAMPA (AUG. 15, 2019)– A local Tampa Bay high school star is making her move to the next level this season at USF – freshman Sophie Shrader is making her collegiate debut with the USF women's soccer team this fall.

The 5-foot-9 midfielder from Lithia, Fla. was homeschooled, but enters her collegiate career with plenty of experience, having played for Tampa Bay United. United is the same program USF teammates Landry Singleton (Lutz, Fla.), Sydny Nasello (Land O Lakes, Fla.), Sabrina Wagner (New Port Richey, Fla.), Lexi Dubreuze (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Rebekah Anderson (Valrico, Fla.), Kylee Burroughs (Plant City, Fla.) were also developed.

Along with Nasello, Shrader's club team made it to the final four in the ECNL Nationals, paving the way for Shrader to be invited to the ECNL National Training Camp in Portland, Oregon. As a part of the camp, she was given the opportunity to play with PSG and Manchester City's women's teams.

Shrader also participated in volleyball and tennis at Newsome High School in Lithia, Fla. As an athlete, Shrader was named Hillsborough Player of the Year by the Tampa Bay Timesand was selected for the ECNL Southeastern All-Conference team.

Shrader met Coach Schilte-Brown at the US Soccer National Training Camp and fell in love with her coaching style.

"It's a top women's soccer program on a beautiful campus in Tampa," Shrader said. "Coach Denise creates a fun environment where players can work hard and reach their potential."

While Shrader is looking forward to playing at USF, she recognizes the development that other coaches caused in her throughout her pre-collegiate career. She credits Tampa Bay United coaches Jime Cote and Peter Gutsche in her development thus far.

"Jim Cote and Peter Gutsche have both made a huge impact on not only my soccer career but also the person I'm becoming," Shrader said. "I can never thank them both enough for the amount of work and time they've put into my soccer skills and character."
