USF IN A GOOD PLACE AFTER FIRST WEEK OF PRESEASON TRAINING CAMP

TAMPA (AUG. 16, 2019) – The USF men's soccer team wrapped up its first week of preseason training on Friday, and will return to the pitch for the first of three exhibition matches, beginning on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. when the Bulls face Eastern Florida State College at Corbett Stadium. Through the first four days of training, USF Head Coach Bob Butehorn is pleased with the results from the Bulls.

"So far, so good is probably the statement that I can say as to where we are at this point," said Butehorn. "They are in a good mindset, they have worked pretty hard and their bodies are tired. We don't get adequate time to prepare them, but I think that we are getting the most we can with the short time we have. We will be tested soon and we will see what works and what isn't working and then we adjust. I am happy with what their energy has been like, and their approach to everything has been really positive. They work extremely hard, so I can't complain."

With several different areas to assess during the preseason, Butehorn, who enters his third year with the Bulls, still has time to analyze the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, along with his goalkeepers, before USF's season opener at No. 1, and defending national champion Maryland on Aug. 29. One aspect, however, along with skill level, has made quite an impression on the coaching staff.

"I am pretty impressed with the guys' overall fitness levels," said Butehorn. "Our conditioning in general has been really good. As for areas on the pitch, that remains to be seen, but in general the skill level is pretty high for this time of year and their fitness is pretty high. Now, if we can just put the two tactics together, and build on it, I think it will be a fun team to watch."

Following Saturday's match against Eastern Florida, USF will face Eckerd on Aug. 21 and then close out its exhibition schedule against Tampa on Aug. 24 in the 41st annual Rowdies Cup, which will benefit the Children's Cancer Center of Tampa. All three exhibition matches will be played at Corbett Stadium and begin at 7 p.m.

USF's home opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m., when the Bulls welcome Big East foe Marquette to Corbett Stadium.
