Three Bulls Earn Preseason Best XI Honors, USF Ranked No. 14 by TopDrawerSoccer.com

TAMPA, AUGUST 20, 2019 – The Bulls were once again chosen as one of the top women's soccer programs in the nation heading into the 2019 season, this time by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Along with its claim to the No. 14 spot in TopDrawer's annual preseason poll, USF had three players named to the site's Preseason Best XI Lineups. Forward Evelyne Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Canada) was named to the first team lineup, midfielder Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavagur, Iceland) was named to the third team Best XI, while defender Lucy Roberts (Chesire, England) earned freshman Best XI.

Viens adds the honor to her preseason awards list, having already been named preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the American Athletic Conference Coaches. Viens, along with Hauksdottir, was also named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. It was Viens' second consecutive year on the watchlist. Both Viens and Hauksdottir were named to the All-South Region First Team in 2018 by the United Soccer Coaches.

While starting every match last season, Viens finished as the NCAA statistical champion for points (2.47) and goals (1.05) per game. She also set USF records for single-season goals (20), season points (47), and career goals (48). Hauksdottir started all 19 games last season, leading the team in minutes played (1,632) and driving home five goals.

Lucy Roberts joins head coach Denise Schilte-Brown's squad from Cheshire, England. After being the youngest player to ever make a debut with the Liverpool WSL team, she also competed with the England U17 team at the UEFA Women's U17 Championship.

USF finished the 2018 season with a 15-4 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league play to register its seventh consecutive season with at least 10 wins. The Bulls won the league title in thrilling fashion on the final day of the regular season with a 1-0 victory over rival UCF in the War on I-4. USF went on to make the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years and advanced to the second round before falling to eventual NCAA champion Florida State.

As a team, the Bulls led the nation in scoring offense for the majority of the season, finishing with 2.84 goals per game and outscored opponents 54-18.

Viens, Hauksdottir, Roberts and the 2018 American Athletic Conference regular season champion Bulls open their season this week with two home matches. The season opener is against Auburn (Aug. 22) followed by a duel with Florida (Aug. 25).
