Wagner Earns American Defensive Player of the Week Nod
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Aug. 26, 2019 – The American Athletic Conference announced junior
Sabrina Wagner as the first defensive player of the week for her efforts against Auburn and Florida.
Wagner earned the nod for the first time in her career. She provided the critical assist to
Sydny Nasello's game-winner against Auburn which clinched the 2-1 victory in the season opener on Aug. 22. The New Port Richey, Fla. native was also a crucial part of the defensive effort against Florida on Aug. 25. Wagner played for 73 minutes in the match where the Bulls only allowed two shots on goal.
Sophomore forward Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) and freshman
Lucy Roberts (Cheshire, England) were also named to The American's weekly honor roll. Nasello scored the difference maker against Auburn with 18 seconds left while also assisting
Evelyne Viens' goal earlier in the match. Roberts has made a difference as a true freshman, making two starts and playing all 90 minutes in both contests. She is a big part of South Florida's defensive effort on the pitch.
