September 14, 2019 | Cross Country
GAINESVILLE, Fla., SEPT. 14, 2018ย โ Freshman Alexandra Weir turned in a sixth-place finish Saturday at the Mountain Dew Invitational to lead the USF women's cross country team to a 14th-place finish in the 5K race.
Weir (Toronto, Ontario), who finished in fifth place last week at the FGCU Invitational, crossed the finish line in a time of 18:17.50, which was over a minute faster than what she ran last week in her first career meet at USF.
Fueled by a 30th-place finish from freshman Alec Latzke (Safety Harbor, Fla.) with a time of 26:45.02, the men's team placed ninth in the 8K race.
"The freshmen had a good day today," USF distance coach Damon Griffiths said. "Alec Latzke continues to show us that he is a competitor and that is something that we can build around. Alexandra ran an outstanding race today. She ran with confidence and poise the entire race. We look forward to continuing to progress and having our home meet in a couple of weeks."
USF returns to action Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7:35 a.m. when the Bulls host the USF Invitational at The Claw, located next to the USF Golf Facility. ย
