WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Sept. 14, 2019 – No. 15/25 South Florida women's soccer will wrap up a four-game, 26-day road stretch on Sunday as they go head-to-head with the No. 21/RV Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Bulls' only match of the week will kick off at 2 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.  
 
USF (4-1) is coming off a remarkable effort in the UTSA Tournament. The eventual champion, South Florida opened the weekend on Sept. 6 with a 5-1 win over Rice, where Evelyne Viens (Quebec, Canada) scored four goals to lead the Bulls to victory. Two days later, the Bulls dominated again, with two goals from Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and a stellar performance on defense aiding USF in the 5-0 victory over UTSA.
 
Viens raked in the awards following her 11-point weekend, earning offensive player of the week honors from the American Athletic Conference, as well as national player of the week honors from both United Soccer Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer.com. Sabrina Wagner (New Port Richey, Fla.) was named to the American's weekly honor roll.
 
No. 21/RV WAKE FOREST (5-1-1)
Wake Forest is coming off its first loss of the season to No. 1 North Carolina. The 4-0 loss on Thursday came after the Demon Deacons completed a 2-0 shutout victory over UNC Wilmington.
 
Wake Forest is led this season by graduate student Hayley Younginer and redshirt sophomore Hulda Arnarsdottir. The pair both have two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Junior Abby McNamara also has two goals for the Demon Deacons. In goal, sophomore Mac Carmichael has made the most starts for Wake Forest. In her four opportunities, she's posted a 0.33 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage including three shutouts.
 
Tony da Luz is in his 23rd year at the helm of the Demon Deacons. In his time as head coach, he has led the program to a 262-166-46 record and 19 NCAA Tournament appearances. Last year, da Luz's squad advanced to the third round of the tournament before falling to Penn State.
 
NOTABLES
  • The 26-day span without a home game is the third-longest span in program history. The last time the Bulls played in Corbett stadium was on Aug. 25 against Florida and South Florida doesn't return home until Sept. 21. In 2017, the team spent 31 days without a home match from Aug. 28 to Sept. 28 and in 2012, the Bulls went from Aug. 20 to Sept. 16 without a game in Tampa.
  • The Bulls are ranked again in both polls for the first time since the preseason. The Bulls moved back into the United Soccer Coaches rankings with its weekend sweep at the UTSA Tournament.
  • South Florida is keeping itself among the best nationally on the stat sheet. The Bulls are in the top-10 in assists per game (3.00) and shots on goal per game (9.60). Denise Schilte-Brown's squad also ranks in the top 25 in points per game (8.60), scoring offense (2.80) and total assists (15).
