TAMPA, SEPT. 16, 2019 – USF's American Athletic Conference opening game vs. SMU on Sat., Sept. 28 in Raymond James Stadium has been set for a 4 p.m. kickoff on ESPNU.

The Bulls, 1-2 on the 2019 season presented by Valley, are enjoying a bye week after posting a 55-16 victory over South Carolina State led by redshirt freshman quarterback
Jordan McCloud (Tampa).

McCloud was named to The American's weekly Honor Roll after accounting for five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) and totaling 273 yards in his first career start. McCloud led the Bulls to a season-high 459 yards of offense while delivering touchdown throws of 32, 20 and 10 yards. He also broke off a 31-yard run while logging 56 yards on the ground to go with his 16-of-27 passing for 217 yards and no turnovers.

USF will open its seventh season in The American with a clash vs. SMU, which takes a 3-0 record and the 11
th ranked offense nationally (550 ypg) into TCU this weekend. The Bulls own a 3-1 record vs. the Mustangs and posted a 35-27 victory in the last meeting in 2016 at SMU.

USF is 22-10 in conference games over the last four seasons, tied with Houston for the second-best mark in The American behind only Temple (24-8). The Bulls are 10-6 all-time in conference openers (5-1 in The American) and have won their last three straight, including 20-13 vs. ECU in Tampa last year.

The USF football program first took the field in 1997 and is in its 23rd season (20th at the FBS level) in 2019. The Bulls have posted 15 winning seasons, earned 14 All-America selections and 29 first-team all-conference selections and has seen 30 players selected in the NFL Draft.
