Men’s Tennis Begins Season at John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic
TAMPA, SEPT. 26, 2019 – USF men's tennis will open its season at the 42
nd annual John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic, which takes place Friday through Sunday in Lafayette, La.
The tournament was founded in 1977 by the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns tennis program and became the first corporate sponsored fall collegiate tennis tournament in the nation.
Nine schools are making the trip to Lafayette for the Tennis Classic, with six of the nine programs finishing the 2019 season ranked in the nation's top 50, including the Bulls who checked in at No. 34.
Head coach
Ashley Fisher returns this season after leading USF to its fifth American Athletic Conference Championship win. "We are excited to see where Chase and Pierre are at. They both worked hard in summer and are coming off terrific seasons," Fisher mentioned. "This event will be a great opportunity for us to play some bold Bull tennis and get after it".
Chase Ferguson (Melbourne, Australia) comes back to the court with his first career ranking: No. 97 in ITA Preseason results. The sophomore also held a 15-7 singles record and posted wins over two ranked players in his rookie campaign, ultimately winning the AAC Freshman of the Year award.
Pierre Luquet (Draguignan, France) also makes the trip to Lafayette, after ending his junior season with a 15-8 singles record and No. 51 doubles ranking with
Alberto Barroso-Campos (Montijo, Spain).
This classic will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and Cox Sports TV.
