Fisher Names James Wilson Men’s Tennis Associate Head Coach
TAMPA, SEPT. 6, 2019 – USF men's tennis head coach Ashley Fisher announced Friday the addition of James Wilson as an associate head coach.
Wilson comes to USF after serving three years as the head coach at Utah State. During his tenure, he was awarded the 2017-18 Mountain West Coach of the Year and led the Aggies to their highest ITA ranking in program history at No. 37.
"We are very excited and fortunate to add James to the USF family," said Fisher. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, while his passion and energy adds so much to our day-to-day culture. We share the same philosophy and believe that USF is on the verge of doing special things in the coming years."
Wilson also led the team to victories over TCU and UCF and qualified for the National Indoors. Two conference championships led Utah State to advance to the NCAA tournament twice.
Prior to Utah State, Wilson served as the assistant coach at his alma mater Texas Tech where his team captured the Big 12 Title and rose to No. 6 in the ITA national rankings.
Coach Wilson also spent single years as assistant coach at UNLV and William and Mary having winning seasons both years.
Wilson began his coaching career at Texas Tech as a volunteer assistant with the men's and women's teams following his student-athlete career where he captained the team. He earned his degree in psychology and added a masters in sports psychology. He was a member of the presidents honor list, the National Scholastic Honor Society, Big 12 Honor Roll and the Commissioners Honor Roll during his collegiate career.
James is the proud husband of Cristina Wilson and father to their new baby daughter Madeline.
