Bulls Place Second, Fourth at FGCU Invitational to Open Cross Country Season
September 07, 2019 | Cross Country
FORT MYERS, Fla., SEPT. 7, 2019 โ The USF cross country team opened the 2019 season Saturday at the FGCU Invitational and saw its women's team finish in second place and its men's team take fourth place.
Alexandra Weir paced the women's team with a time of 19:22.19 in the 5K race to post a fifth-place finish, while Alec Latzke was the top finisher for the men with his time of 27:25.64 in the 8K en route to placing 13th.
"The women performed well today," USF distance coach Damon Griffiths said. "There were several areas where we can improve on, but this is a good starting point. Alexandra looked very good throughout the entire race. We have a young group on the men's side. Today was the first time most of them ran an 8K. Alec and Nickolas ran solid races, staying with the lead pack for the first three miles."
USF returns to action Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:55 a.m. when the Bulls travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take part in the Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida.
