Viens Earns First Offensive Player of the Week Honor of the Season
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 9, 2019 – Evelyne Viens earned her first American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week nod, The American announced Monday. Viens (Quebec, Canada) had a record-breaking weekend, knocking down or tying three program records at the UTSA Tournament.
Viens started her weekend against Rice, finding the back of the net four times during the game. Her double-brace, the second of her career, tied the USF record for most goals in a game. She previously tied the same record last season with four goals against Florida College in an 11-0 victory. Erin Devine set the record back in 1995 with four goals against St. Thomas.
The four-goal night also gave the senior her third career hat trick, tying the program record set by Kristine Edner from 1996-1998 and Siri Nordby from 1997-2000. Viens also had hat tricks against Jacksonville in 2016 and Florida College in 2018.
Viens' final statistical milestone came when she asserted herself at No. 1 on South Florida's all-time shots list. The senior superstar has taken 266 shots, surpassing the previous mark of 261 set by Chelsea Klotz from 2008-2011.
The forward finished her weekend by adding another goal and an assist to her total against UTSA on Sunday. She finished at the UTSA Tournament with 11 points off five goals and an assist.
Defender
Sabrina Wagner (New Port Richey, Fla.) was also named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll. Wagner stifled opposing offenses last week, ending attacks before they could progress, helping USF to dominate possession in route to a 10-goal weekend. The junior led USF's defensive efforts that limited opposing teams to only four shots on goal throughout the weekend tournament.
