Alumni Spotlight: Cid Earns Highest Ranking in Program History

TAMPA, Jan. 21, 2020 – Roberto Cid (2016) and Alberto Barroso-Campos (2019) have had successful starts to 2020, breaking program records and collecting big wins in the process.

Cid recently checked in at No. 217 in the ATP World Rankings, the highest ranking for any tennis alumni in USF history. Roberto reached this feat after a finals appearance at the 50k Challenger Event in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Barroso-Campos made the semifinals in both singles and doubles of the M15 Manacor tournament in Manacor, Spain, his first singles semifinal in a pro tournament.  The alum is now ranked No. 920 in singles and No. 500 in doubles.

Head coach Ashley Fisher on Roberto's historical ranking:
"We are all excited about Rob's success and while what he has achieved so far is amazing, we know it's just the beginning. He continues to enhance his understanding of himself and life on tour and someone willing to learn that has work ethic and tennis and athletic skills is going to have a huge future. Rob is ready to take the next step and make a run at the top 100. We believe this will happen and we are behind him."

… on Alberto's success:
"Alberto invested so much into our season last year that I believe it was a tough transition Initially for him into the pros. He took some time off at the end of the year to reflect and recharge and is a different player now. There is a lot that goes into success on tour and understanding scheduling is a big part of it. I believe Alberto will play more on hard court this year and has been doing the work mentally. His semifinal is a great start and a glimpse of what is to come."
