Bulls Drop Match to Denver, 4-0
Stanford, Calif., Jan. 26, 2020 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team dropped its second match of the season to University of Denver, 4-0, in a match for over an hour because of rain earlier in the day. The 2-2 start by the Bulls this season is the team's best through four matches since 2017.
Â
Freshman
Grace Eland (Manchester, England) and sophomore
Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) fought hard but dropped their doubles set, 6-4. Soon after, Denver's Tatum Burger and Toni Nelson clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory against sophomore
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritius) and junior
Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas).
Â
Denver extended its lead on court one as Melville defeated Boy, 6-2, 6-1 to push the Pioneers' lead to 2-0. Tiron also lost in straight sets to No.114 Britt Pursell on court three.
Â
Lucia Garrigues (Valencia, Spain) won her first set, but Denver's Burger pushed back and took the next two sets to win the point, extending Denver's lead to 4-0 and clinching the match.
Â
Pellicer, Mjos, and Eland's singles duels went unfinished.

Quotable
Head coach Cristina Moros on Friday's victory:
"Denver proved too tough for us down the stretch today in both doubles and singles. We had a lot of opportunities that we let slip and against a good team you cannot get away with that. We cannot get away with that. We have a lot of tennis ahead of us and I am confident this team will make the necessary adjustments to get on the same page."
