Janic Wins Pentathlon at Crimson Invite
CAMBRIDGE, MASS., JAN. 31, 2020 – Adriana Janic set a USF indoor school record for the second time in as many weeks when she captured the individual title in the pentathlon Friday at the Crimson Invite at Gordon Indoor track.
Janic (Malmo, Sweden) finished with 3,906 points to break the previous school record of 3,893 points held by Alexis McGaffagan that stood for 16 years. She finished in first place in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump, while taking second in the shot put and third in the 800 meters.
Janic currently ranks fifth in the NCAA in the pentathlon.
Freshman
Zaria Fuller (Uniondale, N.Y.) placed third in the pentathlon and finished with 3,323 points to register the ninth-best indoor score in school history. Fuller finished no worse than third place in four of the five events and featured personal best marks in four of the five events.
Senior
Taquon Terry (Alachua, Fla.) captured the individual crown in the long jump with a distance of 23-8.25. Fellow senior
Luke Lafferty (Manorville, N.Y.) took third in the event with his mark of 23-2.75, while senior
Jonah Daniels (Jacksonville) was right behind in fourth with a distance of 22-5.75. Sophomore
Melvin Briley (Jacksonville) registered a personal best distance of 21-11.50 on his way to a seventh-place finish. Briley was also fourth in the triple jump following a leap of 48-3.50.
Junior
Imani Carmouche (Mt. Zion, Ga.) made her season debut and registered a second-place showing in the high jump with a height of 5-7.00. Junior
Javonia Ellis (Lake Minneola, Fla.) recorded the fourth-best indoor long jump in school history with a distance of 19-8.25 en route to a second-place finish.
Sophomore
Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) turned in a third-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 16-6.75. Senior
Stephanie Lambeth (Frankenmuth, Mich.) was second on the women's side with a height of 12-9.50, and senior
Nicole Carroll (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) placed fourth with a height of 12-5.50.
In running events, Danelson Mahuetiere finished in second place in the 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 6.96. Senior
Maurice Nock (Sanford, Fla.) took fifth after crossing the finish line in 7.04 seconds. Freshman
Monte Parker (Plantation, Fla.) raced to a second-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 48.80.
Junior
Maya Fabri (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) placed fourth in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 57.29, while junior
Destiny Fairley (Jarrell, Texas) followed in seventh with a personal best time of 58.70.
Sophomore
Shaneylix Davila (Kissimmee, Fla.) took sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63, but her time of 8.57 in the preliminaries stands as the seventh-best indoor time in school history.
Distance runner
Evan Babatz (Fort Myers, Fla.) won the mile run with a time of 4:26.32, while freshman Alec Collado (Miami) used a personal best time of 4:37.64 to finish in fifth place.
"I thought we managed the meet better than we have in the past," USF head coach
Erik Jenkins said. "The group was excited and worked on being efficient in event preparation. We saw another school record fall and had several personal best times. We are getting better with every outing."
USF returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. when the Bulls make the short trip to Boston University to take part in the Bruce and Lehane Scarlet and White Invite.
