Bulls Finish 1-1 Weekend With Loss to Alabama
Tampa, Feb. 16, 2020 – Following a big win over FGCU on Saturday, the University of South Florida women's tennis team fell short of a perfect weekend at home, dropping a 7-0 decision against Alabama on Sunday.
Freshman
Grace Eland (Manchester, England) and sophomore Laura Pellicer (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) fought hard but dropped their doubles set, 6-3. Soon after, Alabama's Moka Ito and Isabella Harvison clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory against sophomore
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritius) and junior
Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas).
Alabama extended its lead to 2-0 on court one, as Ito defeated Pellicer, 6-4, in both sets. The Crimson Tide won three more singles matches in straight sets.
Boy won her first set, but Alabama's Harvison pushed back and took the next two sets to win the point. Mjos dropped the first set but took the second, 6-4. Mjos had a 2-1 lead in the third set before the match was called due to player injury.
Quotable
Head coach Cristina Moros on Sunday's loss:
"Tough match for us today. We didn't have enough left in the tank and against a team like Alabama, we needed more than what we could give. This team is definitely improving though, so time to rest, regroup and come back even stronger for the next ones."
