USF Set to Face Georgia State and Georgia Southern
TAMPA, FEB. 27, 2020 – USF men's tennis returns to the road to face Georgia State in Atlanta on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. on Saturday at 2 p.m.
USF (5-4, 0-1) is back on the courts after a challenging weekend in Texas against American Athletic Conference foe SMU and No. 12 TCU.
Despite dropping both matches, the Bulls walked away with ranked doubles wins against the Horned Frogs.
Jakub Wojcik (Delray Beach, Fla.) and
Rithvik Bollipalli (Hyderabad, India) defeated No. 19 duo Gray/Fearnley while
Chase Ferguson (Melbourne, Australia) and
Pierre Luquet (Draguignan, France) best No. 57 Paroulek/Jong.
Ferguson holds the top singles court for South Florida where he has a current record of
6-2. He's joined by
Ivan Yatsuk (Minsk, Belarus) as the only Bulls with conference wins. Wojcik has faced the most ranked opponents this season and currently holds a 1-2 record with the sole ranked singles win for USF.
Luquet and Ferguson dominate court one of doubles with a record of 6-1. The tandem is on a four-match win streak including capping their first ranked win last weekend at TCU.
Scouting Georgia State
Georgia State will welcome the Bulls at the GSU Clarkston Courts tomorrow afternoon in Atlanta. Johnathan Wolff is back in command for his third season after leading his team to a 17-10 finish in 2019.
GSU (4-6) ended its six-match losing streak last weekend, posting wins against FAU, Stetson and Mercer. The Panthers are undefeated in three matches at home.
Quentin Coulaud works the premiere singles court for Georgia State, 2-4, while Roberts Grinvalds holds the most wins per court (4) on No. 2. No. 58 Grinvalds/Andrei Duarte are 4-1 in the top doubles position with the sole ranked doubles win for GSU.
The Bulls most recently met Georgia State last March in Tampa, for a hard-fought 4-3 win. USF leads the series overall, 6-3.
Scouting Georgia Southern
USF will face Georgia Southern on Saturday at the Willis Tennis Center in Statesboro, Ga. Head coach Sander Koning is back at the helm for season No. 6 after bringing the Eagles to a 15-11 close in 2019.
Georgia Southern (8-8) is riding a three-match skid after falling on the road to Stetson, Bryant and ECU. The Eagles have been effective at home this season, currently undefeated 5-0.
Murphy McCullough has a 4-8 record from the No. 1 singles court while Alexandros Roumpis leads the team with nine singles wins primarily from court four. McCullough joins Santiago Suarez on the top doubles court where they hold a record of 6-5.
The all-time series is tied 3-3, with the two teams last meeting in 2005 when the Bulls defeated the Eagles, 7-0.
