ATLANTA, FEB. 28, 2020 – USF men's tennis snapped Georgia State's three-match win streak with a 7-0 victory at the GSU Clarkston Courts on Friday. The Bulls left Atlanta with their second consecutive ranked doubles win.
USF (6-4, 0-1) earned the doubles point in a timely fashion to set the pace for Friday's win.
Jakub Wojcik (Delray Beach, Fla.) and
Rithvik Bollipalli (Hyderabad, India) took down No. 58 duo Andrei Duarte/Roberts Grinvalds on the premiere court in a strong 6-2 finish.
Court-two pair
Chase Ferguson (Melbourne, Australia) and
Pierre Luquet (Draguignan, France) secured South Florida's seventh doubles point of the year with a 7-5 win over Patrick Lazo/Diego Padilha.
Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo (Barcelona, Spain) began the Bulls' singles sweep with a court four win over Bailey Showers, 6-3, 6-1, bringing his season record to 5-5.
Sergio Gomez Montesa (Valencia, Spain) extended South Florida's lead with a court six success, 6-4, 6-2, against Lazo, remaining undefeated 2-0.
Ferguson clinched the match for USF on court one with a, 7-6, 6-1 win over Grinvalds. The sophomore improved his season record to 7-2, with five of those seven wins in straight-set finishes.
Action continued on the remaining courts with Bollipalli closing on five, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Wojcik and Luquet's courts resulted in third-set tiebreakers where both Bulls left victorious, 1-0.
