Bulls Drop First Conference Match Against Memphis
DENTON, Texas, FEB. 28, 2020 – Following a big win over North Texas on Thursday, the University of South Florida women's tennis team fell short at the start of conference play, dropping a 4-0 decision against Memphis on Friday.
Senior
Janvhi Clark (Tauranga, New Zealand) and junior
Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) fought hard on court three but dropped their doubles set, 6-2. Soon after, Memphis' Katherine Cao and Alisha Reayer clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win against freshman
Grace Eland (Manchester, England) and sophomore Laura Pellicer (Gandia, Valencia, Spain).
Memphis then picked up the next three singles courts in straight sets to clinch the win.
Sophomore
Amelie Boy dropped her first set, but was able to force a third set that went unfinished. Pellicer and junior
Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas) both won the first set on their courts, but play was called during the second set due to Memphis clinching the win.
Quotable
Head coach Cristina Moros on Friday's match:
"Memphis took it to us in doubles on 2 and 3 and didn't take their foot off the gas going into singles. Really proud of how we responded to that in the top three positions, but it was not enough today. We still have a lot to learn as a team and there's another challenge in front of us on Sunday."
