CLEMSON, S.C., Jan. 24, 2021?- The University of South Florida men's tennis team earned its second win of the season over Auburn, 4-3. After dropping the doubles point for the first time this season, the Bulls took the majority of wins in singles to earn the victory.
Following a doubles loss from No. 38 pair
Chase Ferguson (Melbourne, Australia) and
Pierre Luquet (Draguignan, France), 6-3, on court two, a 6-3 win on the premier doubles court by No. 21
Jakub Wojcik (Delray Beach, Fla.) and
Rithvik Bollipalli (Hyderabad, India) tied the fight for the doubles point at 1-1. However, Jan Galka and Tyler Stice earned the point for Clemson with a 6-4 win over
Ivan Yatsuk and
Manuel Goncalves on court three. Wojcik and Bollipalli continue their unbeaten streak, earning three straight wins to begin the season.
Sergio Gomez Montesa (Valencia, Spain) defeated opponent Spencer Gray in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 to get the Bulls on the scoreboard, cutting Auburn's lead to 2-1. Ferguson tied the match with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Stice on court one. Yatsuk gave the Bulls match point with a three-set win on court four against Finn Murgett, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4). A final push from Wojcik secured the victory for the Bulls, recovering from a first set loss to take the match and the duel against Auburn's Tad Maclean, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
