USF Cross Country Finishes First at HOKA FLRunners.com Invitational

FINAL RESULTS

LAKELAND, Fla., October 1, 2021 –
The University of South Florida cross country team earned its second win of the season after securing first place in both men's and women's races at the HOKA FLRunners.com Invitational. 

While securing top spots in their heat, multiple Bulls posted personal records. On the men's side,   Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Nikolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.) ran 25:58.07 and 26:26.08 to place number two and three overall. Other top contenders for the men included Sebastian Edwards (Celebration, Fla.), Joshua Webb (Stafford, Va.), Yves Uwimana (Glen Allen, Va.), Mikhail Kakoulin (Gettysburg, Pa.) and Zac Vincennie (Boca Raton, Fla.) as they claimed spots four through eight.

For the women, Andie Gonzalez (Naples, Fla.) led the pack with a time of 19:06.57 as teammate Hannah Offenback (Monticello, Ill.) followed behind at 19:09.63, both checked in at second and third overall. Sydney Granack (Brandenton, Fla.), Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.), Alyssa Laurain (Boulder, Colo.) and Nicole Capparell (Hazelton, Pa.) all ran times that placed them within the top ten. 

"Another good trip to Lakeland," head coach Erik Jenkins said. "This is the course that will host our conference championships. For our student athletes to come out and be able to win the meet on both sides is a step in the right direction. We want to be competitive so we'll keep working. We'll take the victory today and celebrate while we can. " 

Up next, the Bulls travel to Tallahassee to compete in FSU Pre-Nationals on Friday, Oct. 15.

Erik Jenkins is in his third season as the head coach of USF cross country. The history of USF's women's program consists of five conference and two region championships as well as five NCAA qualifying teams. The USF men's program has produced seven conference championships and three NCAA qualifying teams.
