USF Looks for Its Third Straight Win When it Battles SMU on Friday

TAMPA (Oct. 21, 2021) – The University of South Florida men's soccer team closes out its two-match homestand on Friday night with another crucial contest, this time against SMU when the Mustangs visit Corbett Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.  
 
The Bulls look for their third consecutive American Athletic Conference win after defeating Temple, 3-0, on Oct. 9 in Philadelphia, and Memphis, 2-1, on Oct. 15 in Tampa. South Florida comes into Friday's match with SMU three points behind the Mustangs, and Memphis, who currently sit in a tie for third.

- SMU comes into its match with USF, 6-3-2 and 3-3 in The American ... The Mustangs are coming off a 2-1 loss to UCF on Saturday ... SMU has two straight conference losses leading into its game with USF after starting the season 6-1-2.
 
- Gabriel Costa and Papa Ndoye lead the Mustangs in scoring with twenty points (7g, 6a) and twelve points (5g, 2a), respectively.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
- Following Friday's match against SMU, the Bulls will travel to Orlando for the second edition of War on I-4 against UCF on Oct. 27 ... Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
 
- Following its game against UCF, South Florida hits the road to face Memphis on Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. ET, before closing out the regular season at home on Nov. 5 against Temple ... Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Corbett Stadium.
 
CORBETT ATTENDANCE POLICY
- For the first time since Nov. 9, 2019, Corbett Stadium will return to full-capacity seating for fans, a stretch of 647-days entering USF's season-opening match against Jacksonville on Aug. 26.

USF Men's Soccer competed in the school's first ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 21 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 3 trips to the elite eight.

USF Soccer concluded the 2020 season with four players earning AAC honors, highlighted by first first-team selection Josue Monge and Salvatore Mazzaferro who was tabbed a second-team selection. Also, Oscar Resano and Brian Schaefer were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team. Head coach Bob Butehorn returns to lead USF in his fifth season on the sidelines.
