TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 27, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's soccer team finishes its regular-season slate on the road at Temple for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Thursday. The Bulls are looking to clinch their third American Athletic Conference regular-season championship in the last four seasons with a win.
 
The Bulls are coming off of a win in their regular-season home finale. USF defeated Cincinnati, 2-0, behind a brace from Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.).
 
South Florida is in position to host a second consecutive conference tournament. The Bulls can clinch the regular-season championship with any win over Temple, but scenarios for USF's seed are listed below:
 
To be No. 1 seed
  • Defeat Temple
  • Draw or Loss to Temple AND SMU Draw/Loss to Memphis AND Houston Draw/Loss to Tulsa
  • If South Florida loses to Temple AND Houston wins at Tulsa AND SMU Draw/Loss to Memphis – USF and Houston tied earlier in season, goes to tiebreakers in this order
    • Goal differential in conference play – Currently: USF +4; Houston +2
    • Goals scored in conference play – Currently: USF 10; Houston 7
 
To be No. 2 seed
  • Draw with Temple AND SMU win at Memphis (SMU defeated South Florida, 2-0)
  • Loss at Temple AND SMU win at Memphis AND Houston Draw/Loss at Tulsa
  • If South Florida loses to Temple AND Houston wins at Tulsa AND SMU Draw/Loss to Memphis – see tiebreakers above
 
To be No. 3 seed
  • Loss at Temple AND SMU win at Memphis AND Houston win at Tulsa and ends with higher goal differential or goals scored than USF
 
Scouting Temple
Temple is in seventh place in the conference standings with a 2-5 record in league play and a 5-7-3 record overall. They are coming off a 5-0 loss to UCF on Sunday.
 
Emily Kavanaugh leads the Owls in scoring with 15 points via seven goals and one assist. Behind her, Hailey Gutowski has 13 points from five goals and three assists for Temple. In net, Kamryn Stablein leads the Owls in minutes and has posted a 2.01 GAA and a 0.771 save percentage this season.
 
The Series vs. The Owls
USF leads the all-time series against Temple, 7-1. The Bulls are on a two-match win streak, with its last win coming on Feb. 21, 2021, a 2-0 decision at Corbett Stadium. Temple's last win was in 2018, a 1-0 game decided in 2OT.
