USF Clinches American Athletic Conference Regular-Season Title, Pushes Streak to Five Straight Seasons with Conference Championship

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 28, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's soccer team closed its regular-season slate by capturing the 2021 American Athletic Conference regular-season championship, pushing its streak of seasons with a conference title to five and streak of consecutive conference titles to four.

The Bulls have overall captured six titles in the last five seasons, including three regular-season crowns (2018, 2020, 2021) and three tournament trophies (2017, 2019, 2020).

With tonight's 2-0 win over Temple, the Bulls also earned hosting rights for the AAC Tournament semifinals (Nov. 4) and finals (Nov. 7) as well as a first-round bye.

USF's offense came out strong in the first half and earned the lead quickly with Rosalia Muino Gonzalez (Coruna, Spain) scoring her first goal of the season on a penalty-kick in the 19th minute.

The Bulls kept up the pressure to close the frame, outshooting Temple 7-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but didn't score again and took the one-goal lead into the break.

USF maintained its offensive attack in the second half and, 30 minutes into the half, hit paydirt again. Meghan Cavanaugh (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season to put the Bulls up by two in the 79th minute.

The Bulls kept their lead and took home the win, 2-0.
