USF inks Ryan Conwell during early signing period
TAMPA (November 10, 2021) – University of South Florida men's basketball head coach Brian Gregory announced on Wednesday that Ryan Conwell (Indianapolis, Ind.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the Bulls on the first day of the early signing period.
A 6-for-4 combo guard out of Pike High School, Conwell chose USF over offers from Appalachian State, Nevada, Murray State, Virginia Tech, Wichita State and Xavier, among other schools.
"We're really excited for Ryan to join our South Florida family," Gregory said. "Ryan established himself as one of the fastest rising prospects at the guard position this past summer on the AAU circuit. He's a multi-dimensional guard who can distribute the ball and create for his teammates, score in a variety of ways, and play the physical style of defense our program values."
The left-handed-shooting guard averaged 16.4 points, 2.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game his junior year at Pike High School under coach Bill Zych. His stock continued to rise throughout the summer playing AAU ball, including a 33-point performance in which Conwell knocked down seven three-pointers in a game.
"Ryan really became our primary target at the guard position during the July recruiting period," Gregory added. "I love guards who can impact the game in a variety of ways, and Ryan is exactly that. He will give us depth at the position and bring a maturity that will lend itself to him having a tremendous collegiate career."
Conwell is also a high-achiever in the classroom as evident by his enrollment in advance placement and honors classes at Pike High School.
"When Ryan visited campus with his mom and dad, we were able to present to them a perfect fit for Ryan both academically and athletically. We can't wait for his arrival at South Florida next fall."
