TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 6, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's soccer team starts its 2021 NCAA tournament campaign with a matchup at home against North Carolina State on Sunday at 1 p.m. This is the fifth time USF has hosted a first round match and the first time since 2018.
 
The Bulls are coming off an American Athletic Conference finals appearance, the seventh time that USF had made the championship match in the conference's nine-year history. Despite drawing against Memphis, the Tigers claimed the title on penalty kicks, 3-0.  
 
NCAA Tournament History
This is the Bulls' eighth trip to the NCAA tournament, all coming under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown and since 2010. In all, South Florida has posted a 6-7 record in the tournament, advancing past the first round five times including a program-best third round finish in 2019.
 
Scouting NC State
NC State finished its season leading into the NCAA tournament with an 8-8-2 with wins over No. 4 Duke and No. 3 UNC in the regular season.
 
Jameese Joseph leads the Wolfpack with eight goals and two assists for 18 points. Three players behind her have notched double-digit points totals, with Annika Wohner (12), Lulu Guttenberger (11) and Jenna Butler (10) rounding out the top three. Maria Echezarreta has played nearly every minute for NC State in net, posting a 1.03 GAA and a 0.776 save percentage.
 
The Series vs. The Wolfpack
This is the first time USF and NC State have met on the pitch. The Bulls have a 21-31-11 record against current Atlantic Coast Conference teams, including a 21-21-10 record against teams that are not Florida State.
 
Postseason Play
To date, the Bulls have posted a 24-19-7 record in postseason play, including a 22-12-7 record under Schilte-Brown. This is South Florida's fifth consecutive trip to the tournament as well.

South Florida has five consecutive seasons with a conference championship, earning the tournament title in 2017, 2019 and 2020 as well as the regular-season title in 2018, 2020 and 2021. The program had its first draft pick and second-highest pick in USF Athletics history with Evelyne Viens being taken with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft by Sky Blue FC, now Gotham FC.
