Stats
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 6, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's soccer team will look to continue its history of success in the American Athletic Conference as it plays Memphis in the 2021 American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match at noon on Sunday at Corbett Stadium.
The Bulls avenged a regular-season loss to SMU with a 2-0 win in the AAC semifinals on Thursday, with back-to-back AAC Offensive Player of the Year
Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) and
Lucy Roberts (Cheshire, England) scoring in the win.
AAC Titletown
The Bulls have captured six overall titles in the last five years, securing at least one in each of the last five seasons. No other school has captured more than four titles, with UCF and former-league member UConn each capturing four to date. Memphis has a pair, while Cincinnati has one.
A win would earn USF its third consecutive AAC Tournament title and earn the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament, the team's fifth consecutive and eighth since 2010.
Scouting Memphis
Memphis, who is 13-4-1 on the season and is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, enters the AAC Championship after posting earlier wins over UCF and Houston in earlier rounds.
Memphis has four players with at least five goals this season. Tanya Boychuk, Jocelyn Alonso, Saorla Miller and Aubrey Mister have combined for 21 goals and 53 points this season. In net, Elizabeth Moberg has a 0.56 GAA and a 0.792 save percentage with eight solo shutouts. She has averaged 2.1 saves per game this season.
This is Memphis' third trip to the American Athletic Conference finals, meeting the Bulls each time in 2018, 2019 and now 2021. The teams have split those pair of meetings, with the Tigers winning in 2018, 3-0, and USF winning in 2019, 2-0.
The Series vs. The Tigers
After a win earlier this season, USF leads the all-time series 14-6-1 and has a 49-22 advantage in goals in those games. The Bulls are on a three-game win streak. In the last ten meetings, the Bulls have a 6-3-1 advantage in record and 17-13 goals scored advantage. In matches in Tampa, the Bulls have a 7-2-1 advantage.
Tournament success
USF has posted a league-best 12-2-5 record in eight AAC tournament appearances leading up to the 2021 season. The Bulls are one of two teams to participate in every tournament since the league's inception and have played in every semifinals round, failing to make the finals only twice in the nine seasons.
The Bulls have posted a 2-1-3 record in the six finals games its played in with three titles.
