No. 17 USF Posts Record Fifth Consecutive Shutout Against Tulsa on Senior Night

TAMPA, Fla., March 13, 2021 – The University of South Florida Bulls posted a 3-0 win over Tulsa on Senior Night on Saturday. The win marked the Bulls' fifth consecutive shutout, a new program-record.

Paula Leblic (Madrid, Spain) tallied a brace for the Bulls, while Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) posted a two-save clean sheet in net. She has been in net for all five of USF's shutouts in the streak.

USF wasted no time getting on the board, with Leblic scoring off a crossing pass from Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) that deflected off of Serita Thurton (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) before it found the Spaniard. About 30 minutes later, Meghan Cavanaugh (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored to put the Bulls up 2-0. Solveig Larsen (Kopavogur, Iceland) earned the assist on the Bulls' second goal.

South Florida capped the scoring in the 40th minute, with Leblic finding the back of the net again. Fanny Pelletier-Laroche (Gatineau, Montreal, Canada) and Sabrina Wagner (New Port Richey, Fla.) picked up the assists on the goal to put the Bulls ahead 3-0 heading into the break.

Despite consistent offensive pressure in the second half, South Florida wasn't able to net another goal. USF tallied 22 shots in the game, including 12 in the second half. The Bulls also held the Golden Hurricane to zero shots in the first half and only three in the game.

Quotable
Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown on the team's defensive effort this year…
"I'm really proud of the group. The backline is really solid and Martinez looks amazing in net, just so confident. She's saving that one shot a game, the one that you really think is going in and then she just musters up the athleticism and courage to get the ball. We're really proud of her. It is a team effort. I think everyone is really working hard in the moments that we lose the ball to get the ball back. It's great."

Notables
  • Leblic now leads all of USF's scorers this season with three goals. Cavanaugh has tallied two, while four players have one.
  • Nasello and Pelletier-Laroche both have two assists this year for the Bulls.
  • USF has now outshot opponents 85-22 through five games, with a 38-7 advantage in shots on goal.
