USF Sailing Returns to Regular Season Competition At Charleston

TAMPA, Fla., March 18, 2021 – The USF sailing team will be back in action this weekend in its first regular season competition, an inter-conference invitational at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

USF will field the only all-women's team and race against five other teams: Tulane, Old Dominion, Jacksonville, and two boats from Charleston. The expected starting line-up for the Bulls includes: skipper Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.) and crew Carolina Perez-Rovira, skipper Katie Bornarth (Jensen Beach, Fla.) and crew Sam Kappaz (Lithia, Fla.), and skipper Sydney Monahan (Fort Myers, Fla.) and crew Olivia Smith (Palm Harbor, Fla.).

Additional USF sailors expected to rotate into the racing are Lily Theisen (St. Augustine, Fla.), Alexandria Foos (Whitehall, Mich.) and Chloe Sweeting (Hope Town, Marsh Harbour, Bahamas). The current forecasted weather could be problematic for the Bulls, with winds predicted to gust into the 20 mile per hour range and above. Strong breezes generally favor larger sized coed sailors over the all-female USF squad.

"We will push to our limits and are very excited to be one of the teams invited to this prestigious event," head coach Allison Jolly said.

Results from the competition will be shared on GoUSFBulls.com next week.
