Martinez Named American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week

TAMPA, Fla., April 12, 2021 – University of South Florida women's soccer goalkeeper Sydney Martinez was named the American Athletic Conference goalkeeper of the week, the league announced on Monday. Fanny Pelletier-Laroche was also named to the weekly honor roll.

"Sydney was amazing for us in net this week and made a lot of saves that kept us in the game," head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. "We can always count on her to make multiple big saves in a game. I'm so proud of her for the effort she's given us this season."

Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) tied her career-high with seven saves in the regular-season finale against Cincinnati. She helped the Bulls post an undefeated regular season, including tallying five shutouts to begin the year.

Pelletier-Laroche (Gatineau, Quebec, Canada) scored the Bulls' goal against the Bearcats. It was her first goal of the season.

USF begins postseason play on Thursday as ECU visits Corbett Stadium. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
