TAMPA, Fla., April 14, 2021 – The No. 14/15 University of South Florida women's soccer team begins its postseason play with a matchup against the East Carolina Pirates in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals on Thursday. Kickoff in the game is at 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Bulls dominated in the
conference year-end awards.
Sydny Nasello (Offensive),
Chyanne Dennis (Co-Defensive) and
Sydney Martinez (Goalkeeper) all earned player of the year awards. Schilte-Brown and her staff were named the AAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Nasello, Dennis, Martinez,
Vivianne Bessette and
Chiara Hahn were all named First Team All-Conference, while
Sabrina Wagner was named Second Team All-Conference and Hahn and Bessette were voted to the conference's all-rookie team.
After a victory against the Pirates earlier this season, the Bulls lead the all-time series against ECU, 9-2-1. ECU's last victory came in 2004, a 2-1 decision in Greenville, N.C. The Bulls are currently on a nine game win streak against the Pirates.
The winner of the game will go on to face the victor of Memphis-Cincinnati, which will be played at Corbett Stadium tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Opponent
ECU (3-5-2, 3-3-2 AAC) dropped their final game of the regular season in a 1-0 decision to Memphis on April 11. Previously, the team had conference victories against Tulsa (4-0), SMU (3-2), Houston (1-0) and ties against UCF (1-1) and Temple (1-1).
ECU has been lead on offense by Carsen Parker, who has 11 points via four goals and three assists this season. Behind her, Madie Knaggs has three goals on the season. In net, Maeve English has posted a 1.15 goals-against average and a 0.750 save percentage in 858 minutes in net this season.

The USF women's soccer team has posted eight consecutive seasons of 10-plus wins and nine in the last 10 years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019. South Florida has won four consecutive conference championships, earning the tournament title in 2017 and 2019 as well as the regular season title in 2018 and 2020.
