USF Sailing to Host SAISA Championships in St. Petersburg This Weekend
TAMPA, Fla., April 2, 2021 – The USF sailing team will host the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Spring 2021 Championships on Saturday, April 3. The regatta is the qualifier for the College Sailing Women's National Championship, which will take place on May 19-20 in Annapolis, Md.
Due to the pandemic, several of the traditional conference rivals are unable to compete, but the Bulls will compete alongside College of Charleston, Jacksonville University, Clemson, NC State, Embry-Riddle and FIT.
Three of USF's graduating seniors will start this weekend:
Samantha Kappaz (Lithia, Fla.),
Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.) and
Katie Bornarth (Jensen Beach, Fla.). Junior
Carolina Perez-Rovira will also start for USF.
"This opportunity to qualify for the national championship is especially meaningful this year, as it was cancelled last year," head coach
Allison Jolly said. "The current forecast shows brisk winds on Saturday, clear skies but cold temperatures, and I expect a strong showing by the team."
Results from the competition will be shared on GoUSFBulls.com next week.
