Bulls Travel to Miami For Weekend Duels Against No. 28 Rice and FIU

TAMPA, FLA., April 2, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team concludes its last non-conference matches with a trip down south to face No. 28 Rice University tomorrow at 11 a.m. followed by FIU on Sunday, April 4 at 12 p.m.

South Florida is 1-1 in conference play with a 4-0 setback against No. 48 SMU, followed by a 6-1 victory over Tulane. The Bulls put on a strong performance against Tulane winning the doubles point and winning four out of the six singles courts in straight sets.
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritius) and
Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) both picked up her fourth singles win of the season against Tulane.

"We are really looking to build from our last match as we head into the weekend with some very tough competition," head coach
Cristina Moros said. "Rice as usual is very good up and down the line up and their ranking proves that. FIU so far has a perfect record which shows you how tough they are. Looking forward to the battle!" Â

Scouting Rice
Rice is currently 11-3 and are ranked No. 28 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Rice is coming off a 4-0 loss to No. 2 Texas on Saturday and face FIU on Friday. The Owls are led by the No. 63 singles player, Linda Huang, who is on a two-match win streak. Rice is also led by Michaela Haet, who has posted a 5-5 singles record at the top two spots and 7-4 doubles record.

The match Saturday will be the seventh meeting between the Bulls and Owls with Rice having the 5-1 advantage on the all-time series.

Scouting FIU
The Panthers are 7-0 and posted 5-2 defeats over Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee on March 20 and 21.

FIU has had strong singles performances this season with three players undefeated: Marina Alcaide, Andrea Velcea, and Kamila Umarova. The last meetup between the two occurred on April 6, 2019, where the Bulls edged out a 4-3 victory over the Panthers. FIU leads the all-time series with a 5-4 advantage.
