Bulls Post Strong Finish at SAISA Team Championships
CHARLESTON, S.C., April 20, 2021 – The USF women's sailing team traveled to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the SAISA Team Conference Championships, and posted third and fourth place finishes in the loaded field last weekend.
In team racing, a relay event, USF posted a strong third place finish out of 11 teams. While just the top two teams advance to nationals in team racing, USF has already qualified to the women's individual national competition set to take place next month in Annapolis, Md., hosted by Navy.
On Sunday, USF finished fourth in fleet racing, a strong showing but heartbreaking finish as the Bulls ended just three points shy of the qualifying spot for nationals, with 72 points, while 75 would have been enough.
Once again, USF found themselves as the only all-female team in the entirely coed field.
"Performing well against coed teams is a morale boost, and while the team would have been excited to qualify for nationals, our focus now turns to the women's national championships next month," head coach
Allison Jolly said. "We are preparing for a top finish in Annapolis, and we are honored and excited to be one of the top 18 women's teams in the country."
USF will travel to Annapolis, Md., for its final event of the season, the women's national championships on May 19-20.
