USF Sprinters Shine on Day Two of South Florida Invitational

TAMPA, FLA., APRIL 3, 2021 – USF sprinters recorded one school record and four times ranked in the top five in school history to highlight competition on the final day of the South Florida Invitational.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Gabrielle DesRosiers (Chicago, Ill.), Shaniya Benjamin (Tampa, Fla.) Patricija Roshofa (Limbazi, Latvia) and Jae'Nisa Heckstall (Phoenix, Ariz.) won the event and set the school record with a time of 3:37.88. The quartet surpassed the previous record of 3:38.32 set by DesRosiers, Benjamin, Jasmine Knowles (Nassau, Bahamas) and Roshofa last weekend at the FSU Relays.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Zahria Allers-Liburd (Miami, Fla.), Benjamin, DesRosiers and Kadesha Prescott (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) won the race and turned in the second-fastest time in school history after crossing the finish line in 44.56 seconds.

Heckstall (Phoenix, Ariz.) also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.52 to register the second-fastest time in school history.

Junior Shaneylix Davila (Kissimmee, Fla.) turned in the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 100-meter hurdles and placed second in the event with a time of 13.60.

Benjamin (Tampa, Fla.) also took second in the long jump with a distance of 19-11.75, while senior Javonia Ellis (Lake Minneola, Fla.) followed in fourth place with a mark of 19-7.00.

Junior Hannah Offenback (Monticello, Ill.) raced to a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:11.22

In field events, graduate student Stephanie Lambeth (Frankenmuth, Mich.) placed third in the pole vault with a height of 12-7.50.

USF returns to action Friday, April 16 when the Bulls travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take part in the Tom Jones Memorial hosted by the University of Florida.
