Women’s Soccer’s Nasello Named AAC Offensive Player of the Week

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 20, 2021 – University of South Florida women's soccer forward Sydny Nasello was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It's her first honor of the season.

Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.), who scored three goals during the week, was a key piece of a surging USF (6-2-1, 1-0-0 AAC) offense that tallied five goals across two wins. The Bulls picked up the 3-2 overtime win in their conference opener against ECU, then a 2-1 victory over FGCU in the non-conference finale.

Nasello tallied the game-tying goal against ECU in the 89th minute, sending the game to overtime. She also took five shots, including three that went on goal, in the game.

Three days later, Nasello kept driving the USF offensive effort this season, scoring both of USF's goals in a win over Florida Gulf Coast. It was her third career multi-goal game.

Nasello currently ranks third in the country with 2.89 shots on goal per game and sixth in the country with 5.11 shots per game. The forward comes in at No. 15 in the country and leads the AAC with seven goals on the year, while also leading the conference in points with 16.

Joining Nasello, defender Lucy Roberts (Cheshire, England) was named to the American's weekly honor roll for her efforts this week. She scored a game-tying goal in the 84th minute against ECU and assisted the game-winning goal against FGCU.

The Bulls are back in action this Friday. The team travels to Tulsa for a conference matchup against the Golden Hurricane at 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 24.
