Bulls Stampede through Competition in SEU Invitational
LAKELAND, Fla., September 4, 2021 – The University of South Florida cross country men and women's teams earned their first win of the season at the Southeastern University Fire Invitational after personal and team success.
For the men's 5K, Benjamin Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) placed first out of the 41 runners with a time of 16:11.04 as teammate Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.) inched behind at second with 16:11.27. More individual success by Sebastian Edwards (Celebration, Fla.) (16:37.44), Yves Uwimana (Glen Allen, Va.)(16:47.10)secured a first place win after checking in with 23 points.
For the women's 3K, the Bulls earned seven of the top 10 spots, clinching their team victory with a total of 26 points. Andie Gonzalez (Naples, Fla.) checked in at third-place with a time of 11:17.38 in the course. Hannah Offenback (Monticello, Ill.) (11:31.01), Nicole Capparell (Hazleton, Pa.) (11.37.44) and Jasmine Knowles (11:35.41) followed suit in fourth through sixth as Sydney Granack (Brandenton, Fla.) (11.37.44), Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.) (11:43.12), and Aly Laurian (Boulder, Calif.) (11:47.82) rounded out spots eight through ten.
"We came out and had a fairly competitive effort," said head coach Jenkins. "Coach Griffiths has done a good job preparing the team for this meet. Really excited with both teams being able to come out with victories but we know we have a long way to go."
