Kailes leads the Bulls at Home Invitational

 
Tampa, Fla., October 14, 2022 – The University of South Florida men's and women's cross-country men and women's teams hosted the first USF Cross Country Invitational since 2019 this Friday.
 
The women finished in 4th out of 15 teams and the men's squad checked in at 5th place among a field of 17. This was the Bulls' last race before the championship season begins.
 
Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.) finished among the top 10 and paced the women's team with time of 19:16.7 in the 5K race, while Chloe Byrd (Seoul, South Korea) placed second for the Bulls with a time of 19:42.9. Freshman Cora Kolodge (Fair Haven, Mich.) rounded out the top three for the Bulls with a personal best mark of 19:55.8. 
 
For the men's 8K race, senior Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top finished for USF with a time of 26:17.7 while also finishing in fourth position. Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.) and Tyler Engleman (Severna Park, Md.) followed behind for the Bulls with times of 27:02.6 and 27:42.1. 
 
Following the USF Invitational on Friday, the Bulls begin the American Athletic Conference in Tulsa, Okla. Scheduled for Oct. 28.
 
About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's team have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019and during his tenure the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
