TallahasseeFla., October 16, 2022 – The University of South Florida men's and women's cross-country men and women's teams competed in the FSU Invite held at the Apalachee Regional Park on Friday. 

 

The women finished in 9th out of 30 teams and the men's squad checked in at 14th place among a field of 30. This was the Bulls' third race of the season after not making it to the Paul Short Run because of Hurricane Ian last week.

 

Sydney Granack (Bradenton, Fla.) paced the women's team with time of 18:26.4 in the 5K race, while Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.) placed second for the Bulls with personal best of 18:39.6. Freshman Cora Kolodge (Fair Haven, Mich.) rounded out the top three for the Bulls with a personal best mark of 18:43.0

 

For the men's 8K race, senior Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top finished for USF with a time of 25:13.3. Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.) and Sebastian Edwards (Celebration, Fla.) followed behind for the Bulls with times of 25:55.6 and 26:15.8

 

"We made strides in the right direction this week, the next step comes from focus and aggression in the middle of the contests," said coach Damon Griffiths. "We have another chance on Friday at the Claw to improve."

 

Up next, USF competes in their first home meet of the season in Tampa, Fla. scheduled for Oct.  14.

 

About USF Cross Country

The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's team have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019and during his tenure the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
