Davila Breaks Record as Bulls Tally Five Victories at Crimson Elite Invitational

Tampa, Fla., Feb. 4, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field team wrapped up its first meet of the weekend on Friday night, with Shaneylix Davila breaking her own record twice during the competition and multiple student-athletes moving up the program's top ten lists.

"We had a good day!" head coach Erik Jenkins said. "I am pleased with the way we managed the meet and the quality effort by many of our student athletes. It was good to see them compete and start to execute in areas we have needed to improve."

Davila (Kissimmee, Fla.) ran an 8.22 in the 60-meter hurdles qualifying, breaking her own program record set earlier this season, before running another program-record of 8.19 in the finals to take first place in the event. Hannah Connell (Bridgetown, Barbados) finished second in the finals and moved to second on the program's record list with a time of 8.28 in the event. Victor Steiner (La Libertao, El Salvador) took third place in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.04, which puts him at No. 5 on the program's top 10 list. 

Connell doubled back from the 60m hurdles final and took second and posted a personal best of 7.41 in the 60 meters, still placing second in the program's top 10. Kadesha Prescott (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) followed closely behind, posting a third-place finish of 7.42, moving up to third on the program's list, while Zahria Allers-Liburd (Miami, Fla.) posted a time of 7.56 in preliminaries, tying her for ninth in the USF record book.

Kendell Mosley (Niceville, Fla.) tied his personal best in the high jump with a mark of 2.05 meters (6-8 ¾) and Annia Ashley (Kingston, Jamaica) tied the sixth best high jump in program history at 1.73 meters (5-8), both earning first place in their respective events. 

Kobe Babin (Niceville, Fla.) and Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) took the first and second place spots in the pole vault competition. Babin earned first place with a vault of 5.15 meters (16-10 ¾), moving up to sixth on USF's all-time list, while Baker finished second at 5.05 meters (16-6 ¾). 

Shaniya Benjamin (Tampa, Fla.) finished first in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.99 meters (19-08), while Alliya Boothe (Bloomfield, Conn.) earned a third-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 17.09 meters (56-01). Ashley kept up her successful day, placing third in the long jump and moving to No. 9 on USF's all-time list with a jump of 5.78 meters (18-11 ¾). 

Eron Carter (Palatka, Fla.) wrapped up the day for USF, taking second in the men's weight throw with a distance of 19.42meters (63-8 ¾).

The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at the Scarlet and White Invitational, hosted at Boston University.
