Beckford Ready to Represent USF at NCAA Indoor Championships

Tampa, Fla., March 11, 2022 – University of South Florida track and field student-athlete Romaine Beckford competes on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the high jump. Competition in the high jump starts at 1:30 p.m. ET.

"Romaine has earned the right to compete against some of the world's best athletes at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championship," head coach Erik Jenkins said. "We certainly wish him all the best this weekend as he represents himself and USF on this elite stage."

Beckford, who won the high jump championship at the 2021 NJCAA Indoor Championships with a 2.15-meter leap, is the program's fifth qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships and the first to qualify in the high jump.

Beckford posted a 2.20-meter (7-2.50) jump at the American Athletic Conference Championships, breaking the program-record to earn the qualification. He had already tied the previous program best of 7-1 earlier this indoor season, matching the mark Chase Meyers set in 2013.

Beckford was named American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week earlier this season with his program-record tying performance at the Commodore Challenge.
