TAMPA, Fla., March 17, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team opened its weekend tournament with a win over Ohio State, 5-0, before falling to Purdue in game two, 1-0.

Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) earned the win in game one, pitching her 10
th complete-game shutout of the season. The win extended her consecutive scoreless innings streak to 88.1 innings (94.1 innings without an earned run). However, both streaks were snapped against Purdue, as Corrick gave up her first run in nearly a month off a home run to right center. The streak of 88.1 innings is the longest in program and conference history and was just 17 innings away from the NCAA record of 105.

Game 1 – USF 5, Ohio State 0
After two innings dominated by pitchers, USF's offense broke through in the third. With a runner on, a fielder's choice coupled with an error allowed
Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) to score, giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead.

With pitchers dueling again, it took the Bulls until the sixth inning to add insurance to their lead. After the first two runners reached,
Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) doubled to center field which allowed
Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.) to score. Following a
Megan Pierro (Lutz) which loaded the bases,
Alexis Swearingen (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) walked to drive home
Hallie Bryant (Trenton, Fla.).
Madison Epperson (Tampa, Fla.) scored
Allana Consolazio (Fort Myers, Fla.) on a sacrifice fly, while Pierro scored before a tag out that ended the inning, putting USF ahead 5-0.

Corrick kept dealing to close the game, earning her 18
th win of the year.

Game 2 – Purdue 1, USF 0
The second game of the day was another pitcher's duel.
Erin Poepping (Lino Lakes, Minn.) tossed four shutout innings for the Bulls, while Purdue's defense also kept the Bulls at bay.

Corrick entered in relief to begin the fifth, but Hallada sent the first pitch from Corrick over the right-center field fence to end Corrick's streak of shutout innings and score the game's lone run.

After the homer, Corrick threw three innings without allowing another hit or baserunner.
Â
Ulitimately, the lone home run was enough for Purdue to earn the win, handing Corrick her first loss of the season.
