Two Tally First Place Finishes on First Day of Hurricane Invitational
Tampa, Fla., March 18, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field team had four podium finishes, including two who took first place, on day one of the Hurricane Invitational in Miami.

"We had a good start to our outdoor season with several individuals posting quality marks," head coach
Erik Jenkins said. "Eron and Stone have positioned themselves well to earn a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary round. Kendall also posted a lifetime best that places him very close to being a NCAA qualifier. Tomorrow brings another opportunity for us to work on managing the meet and executing our training."

Eron Carter started the day strong for the Bulls, posting a 55.44 meter (181-11) throw in the discus. The mark won him the event and also moved him to third on USF's all-time list.
Stone Baker followed Carter's performance with a first-place finish of his own, vaulting 5.10 meters (16-8.75) to claim the top spot in the event.

Kendell Mosley finished second in the high jump, posting a 2.06-meter (6-9) leap, which moves him to ninth on USF's top ten list, while
Sydney Granack finished third in the 3,000 meters with a 10:39.83.

The Bulls continue in competition at the Hurricane Invitational tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.

About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 54 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.Â
