Carter Sets New Program Record as Bulls Finish Day One of FSU Relays

Tampa, Fla., March 24, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field team tallied several podium finishes as well as two first-place finishes to wrap up its first day at the FSU Relays.

Eron Carter (Palatka, Florida) kicked off the afternoon by setting a program record in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 58.91 meters (193-3). The mark gave him third place in the event. 

In the pole vault, South Florida took home first place in both the men's and women's events. Kobe Babin (Niceville, Florida) posted a 4.90 meter (16-0.75) jump to finish in the top spot for the men while Audrey Wuerffel (Jacksonville, Florida) posted a 3.20 meter (10-6) vault to earn first for the women.

Annia Ashley (Kingston, Jamaica) gave the Bulls another top-three finish, taking second place in the high jump with a leap of 1.69 meters (5-6 ½). Meanwhile, Kendall McDaniel (Loganville, Georgia) placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.60meters (18-4 ½). 

In the men's high jump, the Bulls had two student-athletes finish on the podium. Kendell Mosley (Niceville, Florida) took second place while David Ajama (Lowell, Mass.) finished third, with both ending with jumps of 1.97 meters (6-5.5).

In track events, Hannah Connell (Bridgetown, Barbados) posted a time of 24.38 seconds in the 200-meter dash to finish in third place. 

The day concluded with the 5000-meter events. For the men, Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Florida) took third place with a personal-best time of 14:59.16, while Sydney Granack (Bradenton, Florida) also recorded a personal-best, taking fifth with a time of 18:19.42.

The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. for the second day of the FSU Relays.

About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 54 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
