Green shares American Women’s Golfer of the Week honors
TAMPA (March 9, 2022) – After taking home her first collegiate win on Tuesday, the University of South Florida's Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) has also earned American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
Green shares the weekly award with Tulsa's Lovisa Gunnar with whom she shared medalist honors with at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Green and Gunnar were the only two players in the 83-player field at Trinity Forest to shoot par or better, both finish at even-par 216.
Green shot two-under-par 70 with five birdies in the final round on Tuesday to climb to the top of the leaderboard and shared the tournament lead with 10 total birdies over 54 holes. The sophomore also paced the field with a 3.90 stroke average (-3) on par-4 holes over three rounds.
Battling unseasonable conditions in Dallas, Green carded two rounds of par or better at the event and has done so in 14 of her 17 rounds this season. She has four top 10 finishes in five events this season and has been USF's leading scorer in six of those outings.
Green and the Bulls are back in action later this week at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Georgia on March 12-13.

The Bulls are in their fourth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2021-22. USF is among the fastest rising program in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan's first season. The Bulls won two tournaments in 2018-19 and set several program records, including season scoring average (293.43) and team rounds of par or better (6), and in 2019-20 the Bulls posted a wire-to-wire win at the Old Friends Invitational, marking the program's third tournament title since spring 2019. USF opened its abbreviated 2020-21 campaign by breaking the program team record for low 54-hole team score (861).
