TULSA, Okla. (April 22, 2022) – Since the inception of the American Athletic Conference, the University of South Florida men's tennis team has been the most dominating program in AAC championship play boasting a 19-2 record all-time coming into this year's event in Tulsa. On Friday the fourth-seeded, and No. 41-ranked Bulls continued to create problems for the opposition – and improved on that record – as they took down rival and fifth-seeded Central Florida, 4-3, to advance to the tournament semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET against top-seeded SMU. The Mustangs were a 4-2 winner over Temple in the other semifinal.

As should be expected in the rivalry between the two schools, the dual came down to the last two courts. Chase Ferguson tied the team scoring with a thrilling straight-set win on court two with a second-set tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6. That turned the attention to court three and Antonio Muniz who was involved in a thrilling three-set affair. Muniz fell in the first set, 1-6, but came back to take the second handily, 6-3, before closing out the court and eliminating the Knights with a 7-5 win in the third set.

After earning the doubles point to start the day off with a pair of 6-4 wins on court one and court three, Bruno Oliveira got singles started by taking court six, 6-0, 6-2 to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead. Central Florida, however, took court four (6-2, 6-4) and court one (7-6, 6-4) to even the dual at two-all.

The Knights went up 3-2 in the dual with a win on court five, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, before Ferguson and Muniz secured the victory.
