TULSA, Okla. (April 22, 2022) – The ninth-seeded University of South Florida women's tennis team's Cinderella run in the 2022 American Athletic Conference Tournament came to a close on Friday following a 4-0 loss to second-seeded Memphis at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Bulls, who upset eighth-seeded Temple, 4-3, in the first round on Wednesday, and then stunned top-seeded and No. 19-ranked Central Florida in the quarterfinals, 4-3, on Thursday night, dropped the doubles point to open the dual and then fell in straight sets in three-consecutive matches on court six (6-2, 6-0), court two (6-1, 6-2) and court one 6-4, 6-2).
South Florida's appearance in the semifinals marked the fifth time in the eight years of the American Athletic Conference Tournament that it has been among the final four teams.
The Bulls are now 14-6 all-time in the event dating back to the tournament's first season in 2014.
